MHDC Approves Tax Credit Application for St. Ferdinand Homes II

In December 2016, Northside Community Housing was selected by the Missouri Housing Development Commission to be a recipient of federal and state Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) to help fund the construction of a new housing development in the Ville & Greater Ville neighborhoods, known as St. Ferdinand Homes II.

Centered at the corner of North Sarah St. and St. Ferdinand Ave., this new mixed-income housing development, which has also received funding support from the St. Louis Community Development Administration and the Affordable Housing Commission, will include the restoration and remodeling of three existing buildings at or near the main intersection, including the old Star Laundry building (shown above). In addition to these three rehabs, nine more new buildings will be constructed in a contiguous site along the 2500 block of North Sarah and the 4000 block of St. Ferdinand as multifamily rental housing, adding a total of 43 new homes to the area. The downstairs of the Star Laundry building will also include space for a property management and rental office, as well as a room for community meetings and activities.

Northside Community Housing is excited to begin construction on this project and is grateful to the community members who have shown support for this effort — Including Michael Allen of Preservation Research Office, who gave us a shout-out on Instagram! Keep checking the NCHI website and social media for more photos and updates on what Northside is doing!
